Adding animals to complete the circle of nutrients on a homestead can seem like a daunting task. You do NOT need a dozen acres to begin integrating animals into your homestead solutions. Here at Twisted Clover Homestead we have found success with Rabbits, Quail and Chickens.
Rabbits
These beautiful Rabbits require minimal upkeep compared to larger farm animals. They reproduce quickly and take up minimal space. They eat any garden scraps and produce a manure that can be applied directly back to the garden.
Quail
Quail are easier and faster growing than even rabbits. Quail will start laying eggs in 6-8 weeks! They are the perfect size to keep on a homestead for fast and sustainable meat and eggs.
Chickens
We have been happy with our "Ranger" breed of Chickens. They can be butchered for meat in about 12 weeks or let them grow old enough to give you fresh eggs. They do a great job of foraging and are being raised on rotational pasture.
We are much more selective of selling our animals than we are of our plants. If you would like more information on quail, rabbits or ranger chickens please reach out to us, so that we can get to know each other.
